Goot
Essa is a cooperative of Plain Pennsylvania dairy farmers
who have banded together to sell milk as cheese. Our goal
is to offer products made from the freshest, highest quality,
all-natural ingredients. We want to provide foods with home-cooked
flavor made the old-fashioned way.
In the German language “Goot Essa” means “good
food” or “good eating.” We hope our guests
enjoy their meals, so we wish them “goot essa”
before eating. We took Goot Essa as the name of our group
because we want you to share in our love of good country-style
food.
The
Plain people are descendants of German-Swiss Anabaptists
who came to Pennsylvania over 200 years ago. Although many
people call us Pennsylvania Dutch, we are really members
of the Amish, Brethren and Mennonite religions. We prefer
to think of ourselves as Plain people.
We have chosen to work our fields in the traditional way.
Our farms are small, but each acre and each animal is cared
for with love and respect for the ways of nature. Ours are
true family farms where each member of the family has chores
and contributes to the good of the farm and the community.

Much of our field work is done with horses or mules pulling old-style equipment. We often work together with other members of our community to harvest the hay, corn and other crops on time. |
